Veteran actress Waheeda Rehman has been an integral part of the Hindi film industry. In her career spanning nearly 6 decades, the 85-year-old worked in seveal successful Bollywood movies. Owing to her stellar contribution to the Indian cinema, Rehman will be honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award this year. The Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement award was presented to senior actress Asha Parekh last year.

Information & Broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur made an official annoucement about the same on X. He wrote, "I feel an immense sense of happiness and honour in announcing that Waheeda Rehman ji is being bestowed with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year for her stellar contribution to Indian Cinema (sic)."

A part of his tweet also read, "At a time when the historic Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam has been passed by Parliament, her being awarded with this lifetime achievement award is a fitting tribute to one of the leading ladies of Indian Cinema and one who has dedicated her life after films to philanthropy and the greater good of society. I congratulate her and humbly pay my regards to her rich body of work that is an intrinsic part of our film history (sic)."

About Waheeda Rehman
Waheeda Rehman made her acting debut with a Telugu movie Rojulu Marayi in 1995. On the other hand, she forayed into the Hindi cinema with C.I.D in 1956. She went on to feature in films like Pyaasa Guide, Khamoshi, Phagun, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Kohraa Man Mandir, Kabhie Kabhie, Chandni, Lamhe, Adalat, Himmatwala, Om Jai Jagdish, Rang De Basanti and Delhi 6.
Her last release was the 2021 film Skater Girl which released on Netlix. It was directed by filmmaker Manjari Makijany.
