Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms to co-produce Vrushabha, which is helmed by Kannada director Nanda Kishore
Mohanlal’s Malayalam-Telugu bilingual Vrushabha has got some major backing now, with Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms coming onboard as co-producers of the period action-drama.
While there were rumours that Ekta Kapoor will produce the film after Mohanlal’s meeting with her in Mumbai last week, the makers have confirmed this with a pic of the team, announcing the collaboration with Connekkt Media and AVS Studios.

The movie was first announced last year, with the team launching the film in Dubai. Mohanlal had said that the movie will be a visual treat with its story spanning generations and revolving around the relationship between a father and a son.
The actor also said that he had been getting plenty of offers from Bollywood and Telugu, but was on the lookout for a good script. Vrushabha, which is directed by Kannada filmmaker Nanda Kishore, is touted to have battle sequences and will also be shot in wintry conditions, said the actor.
Currently, the plan is to begin the shoot by later this month. The film will also have locations abroad. The team, meanwhile, is expected to announce the name of the actor playing the son in the movie. Vijay Deverakonda was one of the names floated but there has been no official confirmation on this.
Meanwhile, Mohanlal’s big project this year – L2: Empuraan – might be pushed by a few weeks, with its director Prithviraj Sukumaran suffering a ligament tear and has been advised rest for at least a month. The sequel of Lucifer is expected to be shot in seven countries including the US.

Mohanlal will next be seen in Rajinikanth’s action-comedy Jailer, which is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The actor has also wrapped up the shoot of Lijo Jose Pellissery’s period action-drama Malaikottai Vaalibhan. He has another schedule pending of Jeethu Joseph’s action thriller duology, Ram, and is awaiting the release of his directorial debut Barroz, which is a 3D children’s fantasy.
