Director VJ Gopinath, whose Jiivi garnered acceptance from both the audience and critics alike, says he's completed the script of the sequel (Jiivi 2) in a matter of just two days.

Filmmaker Gautham Menon took to Twitter, and said, "Nice to know there's a part two here. Looks like that's the way to go. Congratulations and all the best, team Jiivi."

Jiivi, which hit the screens in 2019, featured Vetri and Karunakaran in lead roles. The second instalment to the 2019 crime drama is being produced by Suresh Kamatchi's V House Productions. Jiivi 2, Gopinath says, starts right from the point where the first part ends. Also, he assures that the sequel will retain all the key elements.

Soon after the success of Jiivi, Gopinath was supposed to work with Vishnu Vishal and had even got a story approved. However, the heavy impact of the pandemic turned everything upside down for a couple of years. Vishnu Vishal had asked Gopinath to focus on other work. "This was when Big Print Pictures IB Karthikeyan suggested that I try to make a sequel to Jiivi. We had created the first part without thinking about the possibility of making a sequel. When I shared my thoughts about the sequel with writer Babu Tamizh, he said that it was not possible to conceive a plot. But producer Karthikeyan kept motivating me. It took 15 days, but I eventually completed the story in a couple of days. Vetri, Karunakaran, Aswini Chandrashekar, Rama, Rohini, Mime Gopi, Aruvi fame Thirunavukarasu, who played the titular roles in the first part, are all reprising their characters in the sequel," Gopinath told.

The makers of Jiivi 2 have completed the shooting.

With cinematography by Praveen Kumar, Jiivi 2 will have music and editing by KS Sundaramurthy and Praveen KL, respectively.
