In an official announcement today, Vivek Agnihotri said that he will direct a series for the big screen based on the mythological epic Mahabharata.

2023 is a special year for filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri. This year, The Kashmir Files, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Film on National Integration. Its actor Pallavi Joshi won her second National Film Award in the Best Supporting Actor category. Not only this but Vivek’s recent theatrical, The Vaccine War, is earning critical appreciation as well. While he continues to be on cloud nine, he has another reason to rejoice today. He will soon be directing a series for the big screen based on the mythological epic Mahabharata.

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s Instagram post on based on the Mahabharata

On Instagram today, Vivek Agnihotri said that his upcoming movie will be based on Mahabharata and will be split into 3 parts. The movie will be titled ‘Parva: An Epic Tale of Dharma’. The project will be produced by Vivek’s wife Pallavi Joshi. Further, Prakash Belawadi would be the co-writer.

“BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: Is Mahabharat HISTORY or MYTHOLOGY? We, at @iambuddha_films are grateful to the almighty to be presenting Padma Bhushan Dr. SL Bhyrappa’s ‘modern classic’: PARVA - AN EPIC TALE OF DHARMA. There is a reason why PARVA is called ‘Masterpiece of masterpieces’,” wrote Vivek on Instagram.

Not only this, but he also shared a short animated video of the project. Only time will tell when the project will be ready and will be out in the theatres.

Who is Vivek Agnihotri?

For the unfamiliar, Vivek is a member of the board of India's Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and a cultural representative of Indian Cinema at the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. In 2019, his film, The Tashkent Files (2019) emerged as a commercial success and earned him the National Film Award for Best Screenplay - Dialogues.
