The movie directed by Muthaiya has released in theatres today,
Karthi in Viruman
Director Muthaiya's Viruman, which marks Karthi's second outing in the pandemic era, hit the screens today in more than 400 theatres in Tamil Nadu. The family drama brings the actor-filmmaker duo for the second time after Komban which was released in 2015.
Billed as a family drama, Viruman, which stars Prakash Raj, Rajkiran, Saranya Ponvannan, Singam Puli and Soori among others in key roles, has opened to mixed response among critics and film lovers. Aditi Shankar, daughter of veteran filmmaker Shankar, has made her acting debut with the movie which has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Last year, there were reports that Disney+ Hotstar had bagged OTT rights of Viruman, though there wasn't any official confirmation on the same. Now, it is confirmed that Amazon Prime Video has acquired the film's digital rights. The logo of the OTT giant was screened along with the movie.
It is expected that the project will drop on the platform after a month of its theatrical release. The performances of actors and technical aspects have been garnering praise from cinephiles, while the film's screenplay has been receiving flak due to lack of novelty.
Suriya's 2D Entertainment has bankrolled the movie; this is the second time the actor has produced a Karthi-starrer. The blockbuster family drama Kadaikutty Singam marked the duo's first collaboration. As no leading Tamil films will be released till August 31, it has to be seen how much Viruman can collect at the box office.
Selvakumar SK and Venkatraajen have handled cinematography and editing respectively for the movie which has art direction helmed by Jacki. Baba Bhaskar, Shobi, Jani and Sandy have jointly choreographed dance moves for the film which has action scenes helmed by Anal Arasu.
