Director and actor Vineeth Sreenivasan heaped praise on the makers and team of Mammootty’s Kannur Squad
Malayalam filmmaker and actor Vineeth Sreenivasan, known for his films Hridayam and Thattathin Marayathu, is the latest celebrity to laud the team of Kannur Squad, which is still running to packed houses even a week after its theatrical release in Kerala.
The Kurukkan actor took to his social media page soon after watching the Roby Varghese Raj directorial, which has Mammootty in the lead, to heap praise on the team, especially the megastar for acting as well as backing the crime thriller based on real events.
Vineeth Sreenivasan lauds Mammootty’s performance
“Mammootty uncle, you continue to surprise and inspire, and I have no words to speak about your performance and your selection of movies of late,” wrote Vineeth, also applauding the actor for making his production company Mammootty Kampany, which had previously produced Rorschach and Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, a brand that backs quality films.
Incidentally, Kannur Squad’s director Roby had auditioned as an actor for Vineeth’s directorial debut Malarvady Arts Club more than a decade ago, but didn’t take up the gig. Vineeth also mentioned this, saying, “We all have crossed paths in such beautiful times in our lives”, and said that seeing both Roby and his brother Rony David Raj, who had co-scripted and acted in Kannur Squad, make a film like this together was “such a joy”.
Coincidentally, Vineeth will also team up with his brother Dhyan Sreenivasan at the end of this month for Varshangalkku Sesham, which also has Pranav Mohanlal, Nivin Pauly, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Basil Joseph and Neeraj Madhav.
The director also praised the film’s music composer Sushin Shyam , calling him “the true social worker of Malayalam cinema” – hinting at how he has been part of several superhits recently including Bheeshma Parvam, Kannur Squad, Romancham and now Kannur Squad – all of which have helped Malayalam cinema’s business at dire times when majority of the movies have failed to recover the expenditure at the box office.
Kannur Squad marches towards Rs 50 crore at worldwide box office
Kannur Squad, which revolves around a group of cops chasing four elusive criminals across India, is all set to enter the Rs 50 crore club within 10 of its release. The movie has Mammootty essaying the role of ASI George Martin and is inspired by the real-life police squad named Kannur Squad , which was formed by former Kannur SP S Sreejith.
