The Pranav Mohanlal-starrer’s Hindi, Telugu and Tamil remake rights have been jointly acquired by Dharma Productions and Fox Star Studios
For the producer of Pranav Mohanlal’s Hridayam, it was a dream-come-true moment when producer-filmmaker Karan Johar had invited him to the office of Dharma Productions to buy the Malayalam coming-of-age drama’s rights. Vineeth Sreenivasan, who had directed the film, shared a memory from last year where its producer Visakh Subramaniam had wished for such a thing to happen.
In a social media post, soon after Karan Johar had announced that Dharma Productions and Fox Star Studios had snapped up the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu remake rights, Vineeth shared how last year, when there were several uncertainties regarding Hridayam’s release due to the pandemic, Visakh had asked him if Karan Johar would watch their film when it releases and ask them for the remake rights?
“I told Visakh, ‘You should go get some sleep’… and now, this is real. This is happening,” wrote Vineeth, thanking the team of Hridayam for the achievement. Over the pandemic, when the shoot of the movie had stalled, both Pranav and Vineeth had stood by its producer, by not even taking their remuneration till the movie was complete and released in theatres.
The uncertainties continued even when the movie was set for release with Kerala battling the third wave of pandemic and the Omicron threat. However, those behind the movie were adamant to release it only in theatres, and the audience repaid their faith.
The movie was this year’s first superhit, raking in over Rs 50 crore in the box office. Hridayam, which is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, has Pranav, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Darshana Rajendran in pivotal roles. Scripted and directed by Vineeth, the film revolves around the life of Arun from his college days to his days as a father. It shows the people and places that helped him become the person he is.
