Vineeth Sreenivasan is among the young directors in Malayalam cinema who seem to have a Midas touch as far as box office collections go. All his movies except Thira have been commercial hits.
The director-actor revealed his next directorial venture, Varshangalkku Shesham, which stars Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Dhyan Sreenivasan, and Nivin Pauly.
After the announcement, rumours began to circulate that the movie’s plot is based on the real-life story of Vineeth's father, Sreenivasan, and is set in Chennai. Now, the director has cleared the air. Speaking to Behindwoods Channel, Vineeth said that his film will not be shot in Chennai and that it is not the story of Mohanlal, Mammootty, and Sreenivasan.
“Varshangalkku Shesham is not being shot in Chennai, but there will be certain Chennai references and connections. The movie is about a group of friends and has no connection with the real life of my father,” Vineeth said, commenting about his nickname, Chennai Superstar.
While talking about his friendship with Shaan Rahman, Vineeth added, “Shaan has a role in this movie. The look of the character that was in my mind suits him we'll. I have known Shaan for a long time, so I could see him in the look and expressions of the character.”
Merryland Cinemas, which backed Vineeth’s earlier film Hridayam, is bankrolling Varshangalkku Shesham. His film, Hridayam, was a commercial success despite being released in theatres during the pandemic.
Written by Vineeth, Varshangalkku Shesham also stars Aju Varghese, Neeta Pillai, Neeraj Madhav, Arjun Lal, and Basil Joseph.
Meanwhile, Vineeth is gearing up for the release of Kurukkan, which is a dark comedy. The movie marks the reunion of Sreenivasan and his son Vineeth after movies like Makante Achan, Padmasree Bharat Dr. Saroj Kumar, and Aravindante Athidhikal.
