The film, directed by Shreelesh S Nair, was recently censored and given an A certificate, for its raw and violent content, and should be in theatres shortly
Vinay Rajkumar has been very diligent about choosing vastly different stories and genres to work on. After playing a boxer in 10, he was then seen in the romantic comedy Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe, while one of his upcoming projects is a gritty gangster flick. The film, Pepe, directed by Shreelesh S Nair, is Vinay’s most massy project to date.
Pepe promises a fresh cinematic experience, which the team hinted at with a teaser that created quite a buzz. The film, we hear, is getting ready for a theatrical release and was recently censored, with the Censor Board awarded it an 'A' certificate, based on the raw and violent content.
Directed by young filmmaker Shreelesh S. Nair and produced by Uday Shankar S. and BM Sriram of Kolar, 'Pepe' has been made on a grand scale. The gangster crime drama is set between 1970 and 2020 and has a massive cast of nearly 40-50 artistes onboard.
Set against the Madikeri backdrop, Pepe, according to Vinay, is an intense film, with the right dose of action, drama and emotion. Poornachandra Tejaswi is the music director, while Samarth Upadya fills in as cinematographer. Vinay is paired with Kaajal Kunder in the film, a release date for which is expected to be announced shortly.
Incidentally, the first teaser of Pepe was released way back in 2022, and the film was expected to be in theatres in 2023. But for reasons best known to the team, that did not happen, and there was no news from them about the film, until now.
Pepe Teaser: Vinay Rajkumar is gritty, anguished and stoic in the new video glimpse
Vinay will also soon be seen in Andondittu Kaala, in which he plays an aspiring filmmaker. This film pairs the actor with Aditi Prabhudeva. Besides this, Vinay is also working on Graamayana, a film that he’d started on, but got stalled. It has now been revived with a new producer on board.
