Back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, one got to see a lot of experimental and progressive content in films and television. And they were celebrated by a section of the audience that otherwise would not find such content in the mainstream. Back in the day, you had to go to multiplexes to watch such films.

Times have changed, and experimental content has found a space on OTT platforms. So, one would expect that an actor like Vinay Pathak, who has been associated with offbeat content, would be seen more on OTT shows.

However, that is not the case, considering that we have seen Vinay only in a handful of web series, as opposed to many of his contemporaries who are ruling the roost in the OTT space.

When we asked him about this, Vinay told OTTplay, "Well, it is true that OTT platforms are hosting many different kinds of stories and there is a large audience for them too, but I have chosen to be a part of every show and appear on every OTT platform. All that matters to me is the story and the opportunity to perform, which I am doing through plays and cinema. As an artist, I cannot plan its visibility or pick up projects based on takers."

The actor had a pivotal role in the web series Special OPS and Special Ops 1.5: The Himmat Story. He also acted in Mira Nair's directorial series, A Suitable Boy, and Zoya Akhtar's Made in Heaven.

Starting his career on television with the TV series Margarita, Vinay went on to host shows like House Arrest, Kahani Poori Filmi Hai, Ranvir Vinay Aur Kaun?, and the celebrity interview-based show Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai. He also acted in films like Jism, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Johnny Gaddaar, Aaja Nachle, Bheja Fry, Dasvidaniya, and the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

The actor also has an extensive career as a theatre artist and has been a part of several plays, having performed across the globe.

Recently, Vinay attended the New York Indian Film Festival 2023 for his anthology Opium, which received three nominations: best director, best screenplay, and best film.

Vinay has finished shooting for Sonam Kapoor's Blind and Bhagwan Bharose. Both of them are likely to be released soon.
