The Malayalam movie Aattam has received yet another accolade on a global scale. The captivating drama, which debuted in theatres in January, took home the Fipresci-India Grand Prix for the best 2023 Indian film. Across a variety of social media channels, the Aattam cast and crew expressed their excitement about the news.

“This is probably the proudest moment for everyone in our team! All credit and thanks truly goes to our wonderful producer, Ajith Joy K, who backed us all like nobody else ever would,” director Anand Ekarshi wrote on an Instagram post.

Other films that made it to the nominations of the same award category were Paradise, Family, Laapataa Ladies and Mithya. Recently, Aattam was ranked tenth in Letterboxd's list of the 25 highest-rated feature films as of June 30, 2024.

Aattam garnered huge praise following theatrical release

The film was praised for surprising audiences in a number of ways after making its theatrical debut in January of this year, including its captivating story and the performers' outstanding performances. Aattam is undoubtedly an emotional trip.

The film revolves around the lone female artist of the Arangu theatre group, who tells the other members of the group that she was touched inappropriately by a colleague during a post-performance get-together, leaving them all shocked. Some chose to investigate the incident thoroughly and take no sides, while others chose to support the victim out of self-interest or fear of public shame. The movie's narrative centres around the abrupt shift in the conversation following the revelation of several truths.

Aattam streaming on Amazon Prime Video

Several eagerly awaited Malayalam films debuted in theatres at the beginning of the year, including Aattam, which won praise from critics for both its performances and its thought-provoking plot. After its run in theatres, it started to stream on Amazon Prime Video. After making its digital premiere, the movie received a lot of attention and praise from movie buffs worldwide.
