Thangalaan, the upcoming Tamil film starring Vikram in the lead role, has finally set its release date as August 15 to capitalise on the Independence Day weekend. The film, written and directed by Pa Ranjith, has now completed censor formalities as it is gearing up for release in a few weeks.

Thangalaan is one of the most expected Tamil films this year. Headlined by actor Vikram, the film is scheduled to hit big screens on August 15. Reports now suggest that the film has completed censor formalities. It has received a U/A certificate from the Censor Board, thus making it a film that can be watched by all age categories. The speculated runtime of the film is about two hours and 43 minutes.
Thangalaan is a period action drama set during the British colonial era, which also stars actors Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy, British actor Daniel Caltagirone, and others. While Parvathy will be playing the role of Vikram’s wife Gangamma, Malavika will be playing Aarathi, an apparent sorceress with a mystery revolving around her.

The film will explore the Kolar Gold Fields, its origins, and people associated with the place during the beginning. Backed by Studio Green, Jio Cinemas, and Neelam Productions, the film is one of the most expected projects from Tamil cinema this year.
Thangalaan has music composed by GV Prakash Kumar, which marks Vikram’s 61st film as lead actor. Tamil Praba has served as the co-writer of the film, with cinematographer Kishor Kumar cranking the camera. Selva RK has handled the edits. The film was shot in different locales, including Chennai, Andhra Pradesh, Madurai and Karnataka.
The post theatrical rights of the film have been bagged by Netflix. Thangalaan will be released in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. The film will clash at the box office with Keerthy Suresh-starrer Raghu Thatha, Prashanth’s Andhagan and horror thriller Demonte Colony 2.
