Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane is receiving a lot of positive reviews for his latest directorial venture, Jubilee. He explains what made him choose the title for the multi-starrer web series.
The director was present along with the cast of the show for an interview with India Today. There, he was asked the real reason behind the title of the show.
Vikramaditya told India Today in a video interview, “The word Jubilee means celebration and even though it is an English word, it has a desi connotation to it because of our movie. There was a time when we used to celebrate the silver jubilees and golden jubilees of our cinema. That used to be a common thing once upon a time when a film would complete its theatrical run for 25 weeks and a silver jubilee celebration would take place. When a film is watched in the theatre for 50 weeks, we used to call it a golden jubilee film.”
“Unfortunately, those days are gone. Now, if a film completes even 100 days, that's a huge deal! Let alone 25 weeks. However, the word jubilee has a sense of being a word that belonged to a specific era. So, it fits in very well to us for our show. Here, jubilee means celebration, achieving a milestone, and depicting an era when in the business of cinema, such words were defining success. It has a value of nostalgia,” mentioned the Udaan famed filmmaker.
The story of the show is set between the 40s and 50s era of Indian cinema in the Bombay film industry. It revolves around the lives of actors, filmmakers and stardom.
The screenplay of the web series is written by Atul Sabharwal. The show stars Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aparshakti Khurana, Wamiqa Gabbi, Sidhant Gupta, Ram Kapoor, Shweta Basu Prasad and Nandish Sandhu among others. It is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
