The movie has opened to positive reviews from critics and encouraging word of mouth,
Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan in Vikram Vedha
Vikram Vedha is one film which was expected to bring Bollywood back to its former glory. The gangster drama is the official remake of Tamil movie of the same title, and interestingly Pushkar Gayathri, who helmed the original version, has directed the Hindi movie, too.
The promo videos and stills from the Bollywood flick have been promising, and film buffs were waiting to watch the cat-and-mouse game between Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan in it. It is also the biggest Hindi film to release in September after Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt's Brahmastra.
Upon release, Vikram Vedha opened to positive reviews from critics and encouraging word of mouth went viral on social media as soon as first shows were completed. However, the first day numbers are nowhere near to what the trade had anticipated. According to sources, the film has managed to collect only around ₹10 to 11 crores from across the country.
The numbers are in the range of what Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar's Samrat Prithviraj had earned on their first day in the domestic market. Brahmastra's first day domestic gross of ₹35 crores from all languages still remains unbeatable among Bollywood movies in 2022.
Vikram Vedha was released in more than 4,000 screens in India, and around 1,700 screens in the overseas market. The movie had a theatrical release in more than 100 countries, making it one of the biggest Hindi releases in recent times.
Though the 'boycott gang' has been urging people on social media to refrain from watching Vikram Vedha in theatres, it doesn't look like their campaign has any role to play in the film's okayish collections on day one. The Tamil version of the movie, starring Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi, was released more than five years ago, hence, many point out that a good number of film lovers would have already watched the original.
