Vikram Ravichandran explains why his second film was VKR #2 before the title announcement

‘VKR’, he reckons, is a brand that stands for his name, that of his father, V Ravichandran and grandfather, Veeraswamy Ramaswamy, while the K in the centre is for Kannada.

Vikram Ravichandran's second film is called Mudhol

Vikram Ravichandran, the younger son of Crazy Star V Ravichandran, made his big-screen debut last year with the less than impressive Trivikrama. It took the actor a good six months to figure out his next move, a massy gangster flick to be directed by debutant Karthik Rajan. Launched officially in December, the film’s title was revealed this week, with a teaser that featured a lot of bloodshed.

The film, interestingly, is called Mudhol, after the sighthound breed, a type of canine that is known to be independent and aloof and keen hunters. “The dog is an important facet of the film, which is an action-packed gangster flick,” said Karthik at the title launch, adding that it is still early days and that nothing much can be revealed about the film. Vikram added that when he discussed the basic plot of the film with his father, the veteran actor-filmmaker suggested Mudhol as the title, which the entire team thought was just perfect for it. The team has shot for 25 days already in Bengaluru, with major portions still left to be done in Shivamogga. “Audiences either want the scale of the movie to be grand, or the content to be great. We are trying to balance both in this film, for which we are dedicating time in production,” he added.

Meanwhile in the last several months, Mudhol was referred to as VKR #2, as it is Vikram Ravichandran’s second film. But the actor says that a lot of thought has gone into coming up with that abbreviation. “We wanted to create a brand. VKR obviously stands for Vikram Ravichandran, but it also contains my father V Ravichandran’s name and his father Veeraswamy Ramasway’s as well. And if you are wondering what the K in the middle is for, well that stands for Kannada,” explained the actor.
