Vijay Varma has expressed his opinions on the current boycott and cancellation attitude issues in Bollywood. The most recent Hindi films to receive boycott demands on media platforms include Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar's Raksha Bandhan both of which opened in theatres on August 11.
In a recent interview with India Today, Vijay stated that he tried to grasp it but struggled to come up with a solution. He said, "It can scare you. It has just gone a bit overboard now. I feel something that you said 10 years ago could have been objectionable and made a few people raise their eyebrows. It could be a prevalent exercise at that time, but in today’s times, it is no longer frowned upon. I feel you cannot be cancelled for something like that."
Vijay went on to give an example of a household in Rajasthan where they had tiger and leopard skins on display. He explained that having dead animal skins on display was quite acceptable when the house was presumably being built, but that is no longer the case because of how cruel and harmful it is for nature as well as other animals. He also stated that during the time, a household had seen four generations of animal skins hanging in their home and had not informed themselves, asking, "Can we cancel them?"
The actor explained, "If they have not educated themselves and are not in sync with the current times, do we become so bad to them that they get cancelled in a rude way? These are thoughts I keep thinking about. I don't really have an answer. I feel education and catching up on time is very important. But times and trends are changing so quickly."
Meanwhile, on August 5, Netflix launched the film Darlings in which Vijay appeared opposite Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah. The movie was about domestic violence and about how a woman and her mother got back at the abusive spouse.
He will next be featured with Kareena Kapoor Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat in Sujoy Ghosh's adaptation of Devotion of Suspect X. Additionally, he has begun shooting the third season of the Prime Video series Mirzapur.
