The as-yet-untitled action flick is currently in production.
Vijay Suriya, it appears, is determined to break the chocolate lover boy image he has, owing to his poster-boy good looks and dimpled smile. After several months of just being at home and spending quality time with his toddler son during the many lockdowns, the Agnisakshi and Premaloka actor began this transition with his next, Veeraputra a hardcore action flick that will see him in three distinct shades and has now begun shooting for an as-yet-untitled film that sees him in cop mode.
Directed by Samuel Tony, the crime thriller went on floors this week in Bengaluru, and fulfils Vijay’s dream of being in khaki, even if it is for reel only. The actor has been quoted as saying that he had been looking forward to playing police officer in uniform, which has now come true. The action-packed film will follow a very intense narrative. Vijay will be paired with Apoorva in this film. This is the project that Vijay teased on his birthday with a quick video of the script and an announcement of a new film. It was reported that Vijay had begun preparing for his cop role, beginning with chopping off his long locks. In fact, the actor had recently posted a video of this transformation.
Meanwhile, Veeraputra directed by Devaraj (of Supplementary fame) is a revenge drama revolving around a father-son relationship that is set against the backdrop of the medical world, pitting modern medicine against traditional healing methods.
A self-professed fan of the action genre, Vijay has often been quoted as saying that he was looking at an image makeover with Veeraputra considering that it is a hardcore commercial film with ample doses of drama and action. He is paired with Anusha Rai in the film. Now that he is working on another action flick, it looks like it’s adieu to cutesy Vijay onscreen for the time being.
