Renowned filmmaker Shankar, who's busy directing Ram Charan in an untitled film, has said Vijay Sethupathi deserves a National Award for his spectacular performance, as a dad in Seenu Ramasamy's family drama, Maamanithan.

Shankar was all praise for Seenu's "realistic making", besides the music of the film.

The 2.0 filmmaker wasn't the only one floored by the realistic drama. Director Chimbu Devan too showered praises on the film.

Actor Raj Kiran too was thoroughly impressed by the film and expressed his appreciation to director Ramasamy, who was grateful for the compliment.

Tweeting about Raj Kiran's appreciation, Ramasamy said, "I cannot forget this day when actor Raj Kiran, whom I consider my guru, blessed me wholeheartedly after watching my film."

Produced by RK Suresh, under the banner Studio 9, Maamanithan, also has Gayathrie Shankar, KPAC Lalitha, Guru Somasundaram, and Ganja Karuppu in pivotal roles.

The film has music by Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Speaking about Maamanithan, Seenu Ramasamy told OTTplay that he was eager to see how the performances of Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie Shankar would be received by the audience. “If you choose people and emotions as focus areas, you are not going to run out of stories to tell.”

Seenu Ramasamy assured that no character was purposefully inserted into the screenplay of Maamanithan. “The characters' simplicity fits perfectly with the persona of my actors. Maamanithan is rooted in culture and has a lot of emotional depth. It’s character-driven and we have tried to make the film visually stunning. Each story has its character and the place is chosen accordingly. Alappuzha has its character and Varanasi has its own.”

Maamanithan is the first time Yuvan Shankar Raja has joined hands with his father Ilaiyaraaja to compose music for a film.
