The actor says that the team is eyeing a Ganesha Chaturthi release or immediately after.
Vijay Raghavendra’s most recent film, Seetharam Benoy: Case No. 18, was the first Kannada movie to have a hybrid release, with a TV screening first, followed by a theatrical outing. In an earlier interview with Deccan Herald, Vijay had explained the strategy behind the release, stating that Seetharam Benoy was made for TV audiences. Times are such that people are not able to step out to theatres and this film's content favours a hybrid release format. When we approached the TV channel, they liked the film and picked it up. The film's team was keen on theatrical release and thankfully we found some exhibitors ready to screen the film. We are not sure if this will influence other production houses. The format doesn't work for all films. For us, it was a win-win situation,” the actor was quoted as saying.
And now, we hear, that the film is set for an OTT outing. “Yes, Seetharam Benoy will most probably hit an OTT platform for Ganesha Chaturthi or immediately after. We are in the process of finalizing details,” says Vijay.
Seetharam Benoy, incidentally, was Vijay’s landmark 50th film, and saw the actor in cop mode. The film was directed by Devi Prasad Shetty, with music by Gagan Baderiya. Meanwhile, there are rumours that the team is likely to develop Seetharam Benoy into a franchise, given that the title had a case number attached to it, much like Ramesh Aravind’s Shivaji Surathkal: Ranagiri Rahasya, which was Case No. 101 and is currently in pre-production for a sequel.
While several of Vijay’s upcoming projects are thrillers that see him in investigative roles, it would be interesting to see if he will indeed return as Seetharam Benoy again.
