Vijay Dharan, Simran Gupta and Ananya Nagalla are teaming up for a horror comedy Anveshi, directed by V J Khanna, which hits screens today. T Ganapathi Reddy produces the film which has music by Chaitan Bharadwaj. Assuring viewers of a compelling big-screen experience, Vijay spoke to the scribes.

Origins

One of my earlier films released in OTT directly and didn’t receive a great response. Some other projects failed to see the light of the day. Director Vijay Khanna called me for auditions one day and roped me in for Anveshi. I really liked the script, it’s packed with new elements and has a fresh premise. The one-of-a-kind film is a mix of love, thrills and horror.

Premise

The film unfolds in a village Maredukona revolving around a series of eerie incidents. An aspirant detective is out to unlock the mystery. Ananya Nagalla wasn’t the first choice for the film but came on board and did a fabulous job. I’m paired opposite Simran Gupta in Anveshi, it is centred on her role primarily. We’ve tried to preserve the twists in the recently released promos.

Character

My character doesn’t have a reference point, it is new and challenging for a newcomer. Being a theatre actor helped me understand my director and perform better. The work of technicians and actors is always a product of a director’s vision. Anveshi has come out better than expected. We hosted a preview shows and are satisfied with the responses. I’m sure audiences will feel the same.

Hopes from the film

I’m confident my career will take a new direction with Anveshi. I’m sure I don’t need to go to one film office after the other for opportunities. I received a few calls right after the trailer. I earned offers from Tamil and Kannada filmmakers. Audiences are enjoying multilingual films even if it stars newcomers. I hope to better myself with every opportunity.

What next?

They’ve asked me to do a villain role in a Tamil film and I play a key role in Rajendra Prasad garu’s next. It’ll be a memorable project. I am open to looking beyond lead roles too. The technicians worked really hard on Anveshi and we’re planning a sequel as well. Chaitan Bharadwaj’s music is a major highlight.
