Vijay Antony's Kodiyil Oruvan was the first Tamil film which attained hit status post the reopening of theatres in Tamil Nadu after the second lockdown. The film, directed by Ananda Krishnan, started streaming on Amazon Prime Video after 40 days of its theatrical release.

Now, the release of his next project, Tamilarasan has been announced by the makers. The production house of the action movie has taken to Twitter to inform that the film will have a theatrical release in December, though the date is yet to be announced. The film directed by Babu Yogeswaran has Ramya Nambeesan playing the female lead.

Mollywood actor Suresh Gopi returns to Kollywood with the project which has Sonu Sood playing the antagonist. Sangeetha Krish, Chaya Singh, Yogi Babu, Robo Shankar, Munishkanth and Pandiarajan among others essay pivotal roles in the film which has Ilaiyaraaja composing the music, RD Rajasekhar cranking the camera and Bhuvan Srinivasan handling editing.

The shooting of Tamilarasan commenced almost three years ago. This is the first time Ilaiyaraaja has composed music for a project which has Vijay Antony playing the lead. The musician-turned-actor plays an upright cop in the movie.

The film was earlier in the news when Vijay took a pay cut of 25 per cent for the project during the first wave of COVID-19. A few other Tamil actors, too, had followed the gesture back then. Some of the producers had then took to their social media handles to appreciate Vijay's decision.

The actor currently has more than half a dozen films in his kitty, including Pichaikkaran 2 which marks his directorial debut as well.
