Thalapathy Vijay and Jyotika's runaway hit, Kushi, is all set to stream on Aha Tamil. The romantic comedy marked the debut of SJ Suryah as a director in the Tamil film industry. The channel shared the same on its micro-blogging page, "Spread love and not smoke! 🥰 #Kushi - Streaming now on @ahaTamil ▶️ https://bit.ly/AHADownload #WorldNoTobaccoDay #aha100PercentTamil #ahaThattunaTamilMattume (sic)." The star cast for the film included Mumtaj, Vivek, Vijayakumar, Mumtaj, Nagendra Prasad, Nizhalgal Ravi, Beena Banerjee, Janaki Sabesh, Rajan P Dev, Besant Ravi and SJ Suryah himself in a cameo appearance.

Music for the film was by Deva and the soundtrack was a chartbuster. The album comprised Megham Karukuthu, Macarena, Oru Ponnu Onnu Naan Paathen, Mottu Ondru Malarnthida, Katti Pudi Katti Pudi Da and Oh Vennila En Mel Kovam En. All the songs were huge hits. While the song Mottu Ondru was inspired by Michael Jackson's Why You Wanna Trip On Me, Oh Vennila was inspired by the Portuguese song Canção do Mar sung by Dulce Pontes. Shilpa Shetty made a guest appearance in the song Macarena.

The film revolves around two college students Shiva and Jenny, who are destined to be together, since the time of their birth. Circumstances make them enroll in the same college and they eventually fall in love with each other, but refuse to admit their feelings to each other, due to their egos.

The film also had actor Shaam in an uncredited role as Vijay's friend. Interestingly, after two decades, Shaam and Vijay are teaming up for Thalapathy66 and Shaam is said to be playing Vijay's elder brother in the film. Vijay and Jyotika, on the other hand, went on to work in Thirumalai later, which was written and directed by Ramana. The film was remade in Telugu as Kushi, in Hindi as Khushi, and in Kannada as Eno Onthara.
