Filmmaker Vignesh Shivan has demanded a National Award for Vadivelu's performance in Maamannan.
Filmmaker Vignesh Shivan has heaped praises on director Mari Selvaraj's latest movie Maamannan. In a long Twitter post, he spoke in detail about the film, its politics and the terrific performances of its main cast, including Vadivelu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Fahadh Faasil and Keerthy Suresh. And he went a step further and even demanded National Award for his performance in the movie.
"Mamannan is another amazing piece in Mari Selvaraj's artistic journey! #MAAMANNAN It will be a great honour to give the great artist Vadivelu a National Award as a reward for his many years of screen journey. His superb performance on screen has reached a whole new dimension. Vadivelu sir is undoubtedly one of the best artists this century has seen! This is the pinnacle of Udhayanidhi sir's career. Despite being a political personality in real life, he gave full freedom to the director to talk politics and supported the creation of this great work. His honesty shines through," he wrote on his Twitter page.
Maamannan has garnered positive reviews from celebrities for its thought-provoking narrative and social commentary. Vignesh joins the growing list of Tamil cinema's A-listers expressing their solidarity with the movie and the issues it talks about. On Tuesday, Superstar Rajinikanth shared a glowing review of the movie on his Twitter page.
"A wonderful work by Mari Selvaraj emphasising equality. My sincere appreciation to him. My congratulations to Vadivelu, Udhayanidhi, and Fahadh Faasil for their excellent performances," Rajinikanth wrote.
He also invited Mari Selvaraj to his home and honoured him for his work on the movie.
Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan was the first to throw his full weight behind Maamannan and added a lot of momentum to the promotional efforts of the filmmakers. He described that the politics in Maamannan resonated with his own beliefs.
