Actress Vidya Malavade gained national fame after the release of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Chak De! India where she played the role of Vidya Sharma, the captain of the Indian women’s hockey team. Speaking about the impact that the blockbuster had in her life, Vidya said that Chak De! India is a blessing that never stops giving. The actress also spoke her experience of working with Shah Rukh revealing that she had earlier worked with the actor for an ad shoot.

Vidya Malavade calls Chak De! India ‘a blessing’

During a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Vidya was asked which is the one role that people remember her for and she said it is Vidya Sharma from Chak De! India. Vidya remarked that she always tells people that Chak De! India is a blessing that never stops giving. She said, “In today’s day and age where there are so many films releasing every week... and we forget the names of the movies and the characters that we watched last week or a month ago, here we are 16 years later where people don’t just remember the name of the film but all our names (names of all the characters that were featured in the film).”

Speaking more about this, Vidya revealed that even today when she is walking on the streets people cheer, “Vidya Sharma, India. (It was a popular dialogue said by Vidya in the film).”

Talking about the process of making the film, Vidya said that she never thought of Chak De! India as something that will become so big and that her part will be remembered for so long. She said, “I read it, I liked it and I really wanted to be a part of it. There was nothing on the back of our heads. Though it was a Yash Raj production and Shah Rukh Khan was part of it, so that was a big deal for all of us.”

Vidya Malavade on working with Shah Rukh Khan

Recalling the experience of working with King Khan, Vidya said that because she was the last girl to get cast in the film, she knew that Shah Rukh would be a part of it. Shedding more light on her ‘fan girl’ moment, Vidya revealed that she had shot with the actor for an ad just two days before she got cast in the film. The actress revealed that she did not tell Shah Rukh that she might get cast in the film and was hoping to work with him for more than just those two days and the next day after finishing the shoot for that ad, she got the call for Chak De! India.
