Vidya Balan, with her talent and the gusto to do what she believes in, has carved a path that wasn’t just exclusive to her but also one that helped many after her. With her choices that nowhere reflected conventional norms, she has given Hindi cinema some of the finest movies and performances. However, the actor shined differently in the movie that will be remembered for ages, "The Dirty Picture." But did you know people advised her that the Milan Luthria directorial would ruin her career?
Vidya has always taken risks, and they have paid off most of the time. "The Dirty Picture" was one of the bravest experiments the actor ever did, and the popularity of the movie speaks for itself. Now, as Balan was present at the 54th International Film Festival of India in Goa, she took a moment to look back at her choices, and that brought up the topic of the Milan Luthria directorial.
Here's What Vidya Said
She spoke about how many had warned her not to do "The Dirty Picture." Vidya Balan said, “There were some people who told me, 'Are you sure? It's going to ruin your career. It may actually spell the end of your career because you know you have been Miss Goody two shoes.”

Vidya Balan added that there is nothing interesting about being “Miss Goody Two Shoes” because after doing some films, she is now attempting something different in the industry after decades. She went on to talk about the times she was offered to play Silk in "The Dirty Picture." She couldn’t believe someone could think of her in that role. “The first time Milan Luthria came to me, mujhe laga ki, ‘Aap ghalat darwaaze pe toh nahi aagaye (Are you sure about it)?’ Because I wouldn’t believe that someone would actually offer me this role,” Vidya said.
Further, Vidya Balan emphasized the fact that she had a strong urge to take on roles that were challenging and ones that others couldn’t imagine her doing. “There was this burning desire to do things that people couldn’t imagine I could do, but I knew I could do. I was thrilled to bits when the film came to me. I said yes instinctively,” she concluded.
