Viduthalai: Part 2, the Vetrimaaran film has finally hit theatres and is running in cinemas near you. The film, which is the sequel to filmmaker's 2023 period drama, is a hard-hitting tale of oppression and police brutality. In its two-day run so far, the film has collected Rs 15.5 crore in India, in the both languages it released, Tamil and Telugu.
As we draw an end to 2024, Tamil cinema witnessed the much-anticipated Vetrimaaran film Viduthalai: Part 2 release. The film stars Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Manju Warrier and others. Viduthalai: Part 2 has collected Rs 15.50 crore in two days in India. The film which earned about Rs 7.5 crore on its first day, increased to collect Rs 8 crore on the second day. It released in Tamil and Telugu.
Viduthalai: Part 2 starts from where the first part left off. The sequel features Soori as a newly appointed cop who is tasked to capture the leader of people’s movement, played by Vijay Sethupathi. The film talks about the systematic oppression by those in power, a recurring theme in Vetrimaaran’s films. Viduthalai: Part 2 opened to mixed reviews, with some praising the film, while others called the preachiness in the narrative.
Viduthalai: Part 2’s streaming rights are with ZEE5. The film is expected to have a premiere sometime in January 2025 after it finishes the theatrical run. Meanwhile, the film’s first part is available for streaming on ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium app.
The cast of Viduthalai: Part 2 features Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Manju Warrier, Kishore, Ken Karunas, Chetan, Rajiv Menon, Gautham Menon and others. Produced by RS Infotainment, Viduthalai duology has music by Ilaiyaraaja. It marked the first time Soori played a protagonist. With cinematography by R. Velraj.
