The makers of Vetri Maaran's Viduthalai Part 1 dropped a surprise to fans as they announced the film's OTT premiere on ZEE5 today. Vetri Maaran announced that the digital version will be an uncut, unseen and unbelievable extended version of the film. "You could call the extended version a director's cut," said Vetri Maaran after announcing the digital premiere. The trailer of the same was released as well.
Rajiv Menon, who played a crucial role in the film, stated, "You would have seen the film in theatres and enjoyed it, now watch the director's version." The extended version is said to include scenes that weren't in the theatrical release. While the theatrical release version spanned 2 hours and 16 minutes, the extended version's runtime includes 2 hours and 32 minutes. Many have appreciated the extended version as well.
The first instalment of the two-part movie released on March 31 in theatres across the world, while the dubbed Telugu version of the film hit screens on April 15. Talking about how the makers decided to dub the film in Tamil, Vetri Maaran said, "When the original version of Viduthalai was released here, producer Allu Aravind flew down and watched the film in theatres. He called me at 2am in the morning and stated that he would like to release it in Telugu. I need to thank him for the trust he had on me and my hard work."
Viduthalai stars Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Menon and Rajiv Menon as part of the star cast. While music is by Ilaiyaraaja, cinematography is by Velraj.
The film received praise from many bigwigs of the country, including Superstar Rajinikanth himself, who praised Vetri Maaran and Soori. He said that Viduthalai had a plot which was never attempted before in Tamil cinema. The Jailer actor spent some time with the team, called Vetri Maaran the pride of Tamil cinema and also shared his excitement on social media.
