We had earlier reported that director Vetri Maaran's two-part film Viduthalai (Viduthalai Parts 1 and 2) will be screened at the ongoing International Film Festival of Rotterdam. Upon its screening, the film received a thunderous standing ovation for five minutes, reaffirming its impactful storytelling and stellar performances.

The duology, directed by Vetri Maaran, stars actors Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, and Bhavani Sre, among others. The first part was released in theatres in 2023, but the makers have yet to announce the release date of the second part in India. However, at the Rotterdam festival, both parts were screened to the audience.

What is Vetri Maaran's duology, Viduthalai, about?

The film stars Soori in the lead role, a deviation of sorts for the actor who had played comic roles in the past. In the duology, Soori plays a rookie cop who gets to witness the brutality of police unleashed on innocent people's lives, while on the other side is Vijay Sethupathi's character, Perumal, leading a people's movement as an act of rebellion. It is to be noted that Viduthalai marks Soori’s maiden film as the lead.

Vetrimaaran revealed that he initially envisioned Viduthalai as a single movie, with Vijay Sethupathi playing an extended cameo. The entire film was supposed to rely on the shoulders of Soori.
