Vicky Kaushal dedicates Sardar Udham to Irrfan Khan, shares on-set pics with Shoojit Sircar

Irrfan Khan was the original choice to play Sardar Udham Singh on screen.

Vicky Kaushal's Sardar Udham has reminded various people of Irrfan Khan. The late actor's wife Sutapa Sikdar also stated the same to the press recently. Now, Vicky himself took to Instagram to clarify that the project is indeed dedicated to Irrfan.

He shared BTS photos with director Shoojit Sircar. Vicky stated that the movie is dedicated to Shoojit's two close people - Udham Singh and Irrfan Khan.

While thanking Shoojit for the experience, he wrote, "This one's for the two friends that you always wish to keep alive, Udham Singh and Irrfan Saab." The actor was also grateful to Shoojit for taking him back in time and making him meet Sardar Udham.

For the uninitiated, Irrfan Khan was the original choice for Sardar Udham. However, the project eventually went to Vicky owing to unforeseen circumstances.

Shoojit grew close to Irrfan while shooting for Piku. The two became friends who adored each other. While they were to work together again, unfortunately that could not happen.

The director has often stated that he thinks about Irrfan every day. They grew close when the actor underwent cancer treatment in 2018.

Irrfan's last film was Angrezi Medium. The film was one of the last movies to release in theatres before COVID-19 pandemic forced the world to go under lockdown.
