Gully Boy, directed by Zoya Akhtar, will reportedly get a sequel and the film might be directed by Arjun Varain Singh.
Gully Boy directed by Zoya Akhtar stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Varma, and more. The 2019 film is about a young man from Mumbai who discovers his passion for rap music. The movie received a lot of love and praise from fans and critics. Now, the latest report suggests that the film will have a sequel and for this, Vicky Kaushal and Ananya Panday are in talks.
Filmfare reported that the makers are in talks with Vicky Kaushal and Ananya Panday to feature in the sequel of Gully Boy.
"Arjun Varain Singh, who directed Kho Gaye Hum Kahan for Excel and Tiger Baby, is slated to direct the Gully Boy sequel. He's confident that Ananya, who was his heroine in Kho Gaye, will be the perfect girl to lead the project. Vicky has been attached with the sequel for a long time now. Let's see if all these three artistes can come together to recreate the magic of Gully Boy," the source added.
Speaking about Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, and Siddhant Chaturvedi reprising their roles in the sequel, the source added that they believe that looks unlikely and mentioned that the success of Gully Boy 2 could lead to a third installment, where a likely reunion might be on the cards. The source added, "But let's not get ahead of ourselves. That's a possibility that's way too uncertain right now."
In the film, Ranveer Singh played Murad, a struggling rapper, while Alia Bhatt played Murad's volatile love interest, Safeena. Siddhant Chaturvedi was seen in the role of Sher, Murad's rap guru and friend, and Kalki Koechlin played the role of Sky, a record producer who reaches out to Murad and Sher.
The film revolves around Murad, a college student from the Dharavi slums of Mumbai who discovers his passion for rap music. Murad's parents wanted him to get a white-collar job, but he realized he wanted to be a rapper. Murad befriended a local rapper who invited him to perform in underground shows and rap battles. Murad's song was inspired by the discrimination he saw while working as a driver.
Meanwhile, Gully Boy is streaming on Prime Video.
