He breathed his last at his Manikonda residence on Friday
Chand Basha, veteran composer in South Indian film industry, is no more. He breathed his last at 92 in his Manikonda residence earlier this Friday. He worked as a music director for several films in Telugu and Kannada. Some of his popular works in Telugu were Khadga Tikkana, Bangaru Sankellu, Snehamera Jeevitham and Manavude Devudu. In Kannada, he worked on films like Amara Bharathi, Sedina Kidi, to name a few.
The veteran is survived by three daughters and a son. He is also the father of noted choreographer, director Suchitra Chandrabose. His final rites will be performed at Maha Prasthanam at 11 am today. Suchitra Chandrabose, his daughter, forayed into Telugu cinema with Aakhari Poratam in the 80s and went onto win multiple Nandi awards before going onto direct Pallakilo Pellikuthuru starring Brahmanandam’s son Gowtham and Rathi.
Suchitra Chandrabose’s other popular films include Money, Vinodham, Annamayya, Manasantha Nuvve, Nuvvu Leka Nenu Lenu, Nuvve Nuvve, to name a few. She hasn’t been active as a choreographer lately. Chand Basha’s son-in-law (and Suchitra’s husband) Chandrabose is an eminent lyricist in Telugu cinema, whose song Naatu Naatu from RRR was recently shortlisted for the Oscars and nominated in Golden Globes Awards, to be held the next week.
