Veteran actor Delhi Ganesh who appeared in various films, died on Saturday night, due to health-related complications. The actor was 80.

Actor Delhi Ganesh, who is a familiar face in the Tamil film industry, and has worked for over four decades, died during the late hours of Saturday, due to health-related complications. He was 80 at the time of his demise.

Delhi Ganesh is one of the few character artists in Tamil cinema who played supporting characters, comedians, and villains. The late actor was first with the Indian Air Force, serving the nation from 1964 to 1974. His transition into acting took place after filmmaker K Balachander gave his break with the 1976 film Patton Pravesam. The veteran filmmaker also gave the actor’s stage name Delhi Ganesh.

Delhi Ganesh was mostly one of the recurring artists in Kamal Hassan’s films including Avvai Shanmugi, Nayakan, and Michael Madana Kamarajan. However, he has acted in over 400 films, some of the famous ones including Sindhu Bhairavi, Samsaram Adhu Minsaram, and Iruvar to name a few.

Throughout his career, Delhi Ganesh has won several awards. He won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize for his role in the 1979 film Pasi. He has also been a conferee with various state awards like Kalaimamani.

Over time, Delhi Ganesh also became a household name in the television industry and appeared in many serials. He was last seen in Kamal Hassan’s Indian 2, which is currently streaming on Netflix.

Delhi Ganesh's last rites are scheduled to take place at 10 am on Monday, November 11.
