The A Harsha directorial was the actor’s maiden home production, in collaboration with Zee Pictures
Kannada cinema’s Hattrick Hero Shivarajkumar ended 2022 on a high with the release of his milestone 125th film, Vedha. Directed by A Harsha, with whom Shivarajkumar has done Bhajarangi, Vajrakaaya and Bhajarangi 2 in the past, the film, which has music by Arjun Janya, was the actor’s maiden home production, under their newly-launched Geetha Pictures. The actor’s other banner, Shri Mutthu Cine Services, run by his daughter Niveditha, focuses on TV and web content.
Vedha was a collaborative effort with Zee Pictures, so the satellite and digital rights rest with the network. When the film came out on December 23, it was speculated that its OTT debut would be on February 17 and going by the latest buzz, it seems that Zee5 Kannada has confirmed February 10th as the date after all. The TV premiere is yet to be decided.
A period film set in the 60s and 80s, Vedha has a fair share of violence, as Shivarajkumar, in the title role and Aditi Sagar as Kanaka, go on a murder spree, with a cop played by Veena Ponnappa hot on their trail. The film also had Ganavi Laxman, Umashree and Shwetha Changappa in pivotal roles.
Meanwhile, the makers are all set to give Vedha a Tollywood release. Called Shiva Vedha, the film’s Telugu version will be in theatres on February 9. Incidentally, although Vedha is the actor’s 125th film, in terms of release, it comes as 124th, as Nee Sigovaregu, by Raam Dhulupudi, is yet to hit theatres, even though it has been ready for a while. So, in all probability, MG Srinivas’ upcoming Ghost, an action thriller which is about 60% done, and brings Malayalam actor Jayaram and Bollywood actor Anupam Kher to Kannada cinema, may just be the actual 125th.
Shivarajkumar, who also has a role in Rajinikanth’s Jailer, has a line-up of films that will keep him busy for the next three years, at least, including Arjun Janya’s directorial debut, among others.
