Varun Dhawan’s latest is Jugjugg Jeeyo, a family entertainer that has now entered the 100 crore club.
Varun Dhawan is an actor who has appeared in a number of different genres across his career. While Bollywood is thinking about big pictures that can draw in the larger audience, Varun has now stated that the industry has stopped making family entertainers because of the influence from the West.
"We have stopped making big-scale, masala family entertainers because we are too influenced by the West... To begin with, no one knows what type of films will work. From the biggest producers to trade people, no one does and still every week we will come out and give gyaan (knowledge) that this works, that works," Varun told PTI as reported by Times of India.
Varun, who was last seen in Coolie No. 1 (Amazon Prime Video) has made a return to the big screen with Jugjugg Jeeyo. His latest has struck a chord with the family audience and has already become a big hit at the box office.
Jugjugg Jeeyo, which also stars Anil Kapoor, Kiara Advani and Neetu Kapoor in the lead, hit theatres around the country on Jun 24. The movie received positive reviews and has done well at the box office. The makers announced earlier today that the movie has now minted over Rs. 100 crores at the worldwide box office.
Varun also stated that Dharma Productions’ Karan Johar, one of the makers of Jugjugg Jeeyo, has always believed in the genre and that he has always done it. Varun added that his career is based on family entertainers and that his co-stars Anil Kapoor and Kiara also believe in them.
Also featuring Manish Paul, Prajakta Koli, Tisca Chopra and Varun Sood in supporting roles, Jugjugg Jeeyo is now available in theatres.
