Citadel: Honey Bunny directed by Raj and DK, promises 90s nostalgia with a twist of intrigue.
Prime Video has officially announced the name of the upcoming Indian series based on the Citadel universe: Citadel: Honey Bunny starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Varun Dhawan in the lead roles. The series, which is a part of the universe initially led by Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden, has extended to India and is helmed by Raj and DK.
The makers dropped a new poster while making the announcement, featuring Varun and Samantha wielding guns and all ready for action. Take a look at it below:
As per Prime Video, the compelling plot of Citadel: Honey Bunny combines the thrilling aspects of romance with the nail-biting tension of a hard-boiled spy thriller, all set against the colourful backdrop of the 1990s.
The production company behind the series is D2R Films, with the writing credits going to Raj & DK as well as Sita Menon. The key cast includes Varun Dhawan, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kay Kay Menon, Simran, Soham Majumdar, Shivankit Parihar, Kashvi Majmundar, Saquib Saleem, and Sikandar Kher.
Samantha discussed her involvement with Citadel: India at the Prime Video Presents event in Mumbai. She stated, "I would never have imagined that I could take action. But just being here at this event is already a sure victory for me because, till the last moment, I really didn't think I could do it. I didn't think I would be a part of this Citadel: Honey Bunny. I am extremely grateful to Raj, DK, Sita, and Prime Video for really coming to my rescue. I am just incredibly proud already, and I can't believe that this is how it looks."
Prime Video has not yet announced the premiere date for Citadel: Honey Bunny.
On April 28, 2023, Citadel released the first two episodes of its first season. Renewing for a second season in March 2023, Joe Russo was revealed to be directing all the episodes.
The Italian Alps, India, Spain, and Mexico will all be the settings for Citadel's multilingual spin-off series. The Italian series Citadel: Diana will premiere this year.
