The teaser of Varshangalkku Shesham is sure to excite fans of Pranav Mohanlal as well as Dhyan Sreenivasan with its theatrics and nostalgia
Fans of Vineeth Sreenivasan’s movies would attest to the fact that the filmmaker knows the “pulse of the audience”. But even his die-hard fans would be surprised by the teaser of his latest film Varshangalkku Shesham – which has an ensemble cast featuring Pranav Mohanlal, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Nivin Pauly, Basil Joseph and Neeraj Madhav.
The reason being that the actor-director, known for his romantic and coming-of-age tales, has revealed that he has matured as a filmmaker capable of pulling off a period film but soaked with the same elements that have made his movies click with the audience.
The makers revealed the first teaser from the movie, which promises some memorable performances from its lead actors Pranav Mohanlal and Dhyan Sreenivasan. The latter dominates most of the frames of the teaser with his affable energy and his equation with Hridayam star Pranav, who arguably keeps getting better as a performer with each (Vineeth) film.
The film also has a few surprises in store – especially Shaan Rahman appearing in an interesting role along with Vineeth’s serial collaborators Aju Varghese, Deepak Parambol, Ashwath Lal, Basil Joseph and Nivin Pauly. In fact, the Premam star gets a memorable line where he throws shades at “nepotism”, “favouritism” and “caucus” – all terms that almost feel self-referential in a movie that has starkids from Sreenivasan, Mohanlal and Priyadarshan’s family.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Vineeth had said that the movie is based on several stories that he has heard growing up in Chennai and those he has seen with his father. While it’s not influenced by any particular set of actors, the filmmaker told us it does have references to the actors in the industry.
The makers also revealed that the film will be a Vishu release, and Varshangalkku Shesham will be clashing directly with Fahadh Faasil’s Aavesham and Unni Mukundan’s Jai Ganesh – both of which are also hitting theatres on April 11. Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Aadujeevitham will also release on April 10, making it a blockbuster April for Malayalam cinema.
