Vijay in Varisu
Vijay's Varisu, which hit the screens on January 11, is Kollywood's biggest hit of the year till date. The Vamshi Paidipally directorial, which was released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, grossed 300 crores, according to makers and is now gearing up for its OTT premiere.
The family drama stars Rashmika Mandanna as its female lead while Jayasudha, Prakash Raj, Sarath Kumar and SJ Suryah among others played notable roles in the film. Thaman has composed music for the movie while Jani and Shobi have choreographed dance sequences in the project. Karthik Palani and Praveen KL have handled cinematography and editing respectively.
The movie grossed around 150 crores from Tamil Nadu while it underperformed in territories like Kerala and GCC countries. Its Telugu version, titled Vaarasudu, performed well in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana despite two big ticket flicks releasing along with the movie which has been bankrolled by Dil Raju.
Varisu's initially announced release was January 12, but the makers decided to prepone the date by one day as Ajith's Thunivu announced its arrival on January 11. However, Vaarasudu, which was supposed to have a simultaneous release, hit the screens only on January 14, owing to pending post production works.
Varisu is dropping on Amazon Prime Video on February 22 in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. Though the news of the OTT giant bagging the film's digital rights was out earlier, the makers have announced the date of the digital premiere only a few days ago.
According to sources, the team of Varisu is likely to join hands again for another project and the news has evoked mixed reactions from film buffs.
