Jiiva in a still from the film
Jiiva, who made his OTT debut this year with the reality show Sarkaar With Jiiva, has had three theatrical releases this year. The first two outings, Coffee With Kadhal and Nitham Oru Vaanam, hit the screens on the same day in November.
While the former, a rom-com, had him play one of the leads in it, the latter, a feel-good travel movie, had him essay a cameo role which appears towards the climax. His third release of 2022, Varalaru Mukkiyam, which hit the screens on December 9, is now gearing up for its OTT premiere.
The movie helmed by debutant Santhosh Rajan is a rom-com which revolves around the life of a playboy who falls in love with two women. He seeks the help of an elderly man to sort the issue, but little did he know that his advice would land him in deep trouble.
How he faces the situation in a wise manner forms the rest of the story. Kashmira Pardeshi and Pragya Nagra play female leads in the project which has been bankrolled by Super Good Films. VTV Ganesh, KS Ravikumar, Motta Rajendran and Siddique among others play important characters in the project.
Varalaru Mukkiyam will be dropped on Netflix on January 15. An official announcement has been made on the same by the OTT giant on social media. The film opened to poor response among critics and moviegoers upon its release.
Weak screenplay, outdated dialogues, predictable story and a slew of double-entendres were a few reasons many cited for the movie's unengaging output. Shaan Rahman has composed music for the film which has cinematography by Sakthi Saravanan and editing by NB Srikanth.
