When Vinod Prabhakar’s latest solo-lead film, Varada released in February this year, it was one of nine Kannada movies vying for screens that week, so, you could be excused for not watching it on the big screen. Varada released along with Bytwo Love, Gilky, Bhavachitra, Maharowdram, Bahukrutha Vesham, Garudaksha and Dhoka Doshti, and is now the first to get an OTT outing from this set. Starting tomorrow, April 1, Varada will be available to stream on SunNXT.

A hardcore commercial film, Varada, directed by Uday Prakash, paired Vinod with Amitha Ranganath. The film follows a strained father-son relationship, with the father played by senior actor Charan Raj, who makes a comeback to Kannada cinema with Varada. How the duo mend their relationship forms the crux of the narrative. The film also has Prashant Siddiqi, M K Matta, Anil Siddu and Girish Jatti in pivotal roles. The film opened to lukewarm reviews when it released, with critics stating that it was based on outdated content.

Vinod, who was earlier seen in the Challenging Star Darshan film Roberrt, is producing his next, Lankasura, which also stars Loose Mada Yogesh. The action entertainer will be directed by Pramod Kumar and Vinod, the son of late actor Tiger Prabhakar, will back it under his home banner, Tiger Talkies. Lankasura, we hear, is set the against the backdrop of the underworld, for which both Vinod and Yogi are said to have undergone physical transformations to fit into their roles. Parvathy Arun is the female lead of the film. Vinod has been quoted as saying that despite being a star son, his trajectory in Kannada cinema has been full off struggle for him. And yet, he has been forging ahead, inch-by-inch, so much so that he is now set to turn producer.
