In a recent interview, Aamir Khan opened up about Nana Patekar's character in Vanvaas and the story of the film.
Veteran actor Nana Patekar was recently seen in Vanvaas. Directed by Anil Sharma, the film received mixed reviews from fans as well as critics. The plot of Vanvaas explores the dynamics between an elderly father with dementia and his family. Now, during a recent interaction, Aamir Khan revealed that he had the opportunity to listen to the story of Vanvaas and shared his review.
Zee Studios took to Instagram to share a video from the podcast featuring Aamir Khan and Nana Patekar. Khan shared that filmmaker Anil Sharma had narrated the story of the film to him when they met a few months ago. He really liked the story. When Nana Patekar said that the way the character is portrayed and the way it’s expressed is really, really good, Aamir agreed with him.
Speaking about Vanvaas, Nana Patekar had earlier said that Vanvaas is not just a story—it’s a reflection of emotions we often bury deep within ourselves.
"Playing this character was like peeling back layers of my own understanding of family, honor, and belonging. It’s a film that speaks to the soul, and I believe audiences will find a part of their own journey in it," he said.
Meanwhile, OTTplay review for Vanvaas reads, "The movie makes no point with its one tone writing that makes this world look like a film set and you are waiting for the director to say cut so you can run home."
Vanvaas follows a widower named Deepak Tyagi (Nana Patekar) who has dementia and lives with his three adult children in Shimla. After his children abandon him in Varanasi, Deepak wanders disoriented and encounters Veeru (Utkarsh Sharma), a local orphan and petty thief. The film explores the complexities of human relationships and family bonds and highlights the idea that true bonds are not always defined by blood but by love and acceptance.
