Vadhuvu on OTT - All you need to know about Avika Gor, Ali Reza and Nandu’s drama

Vadhuvu

Vadhuvu is Avika Gor’s second OTT show with Disney+ Hotstar after Mansion 24. The web series is a Telugu remake of Hoichoi’s Bengali hit Indu and is directed by Krishna Poluru, who shot to fame with ZEE5’s thriller Recce. The show revolves around a girl who’s on the cusp of marriage, having to settle down in a house full of secrets and mysteries. A special screening of Vadhuvu was hosted earlier today.

Beyond Avika too, Vadhuvu has an intriguing lineup of actors comprising Ali Reza, Nandu, Roopa Laxmi, Mounika and others. With Krishna Poluru’s prior experience in television, the show was shot in a record span. Considerable changes have been made to the ambience of the show, the aesthetics, music in comparison to the original, with the creators giving technicians enough freedom to look beyond the original.

Vadhuvu has a cliffhanger-ending, leaving viewers with more questions than answers. Just like how films take at least half an hour to establish their characters, Vadhuvu’s first season aims to give viewers a glimpse of its world, while darker secrets are to be revealed in a new instalment. Most of the actors too had little or no clue about the plot and the twists and came up with their own theories during the shoot.

Ali Reza and Nandu play siblings in Vadhuvu. Surprisingly, the latter was cast as the elder brother, even if he was younger to Ali. The show is Nandu’s third OTT outing this year after his impressive cameos in Mansion 24 and Prema Vimanam. Ali almost couldn’t take up the show owing to his prior commitment to work in Operation Valentine. When the latter’s shoot was pushed, he allocated 30 days for Vadhuvu.

Roopa Laxmi, a formidable performer, said she was particular about working with Krishna Poluru for a long time and that his clear instructions made the job easier for her. The actress, who has been flooded with offers post Balagam this year, confesses to being a ‘keen observer’, who reads people well. Being an avid reader has helped her understand a character’s psyche better and ensure distinction between her roles.

In terms of the technical team - Krishna Poluru has retained the cinematographer, editor and music director who worked on Recce in the past. Ram K Mahesh cranks the camera for the show, with Sriram Maddury composing the music. Anil P Kumar, who worked on both seasons of ZEE5’s Loser, is the editor. Vadhuvu is produced by SVF, the makers behind the hit OTT show Dayaa, starring JD Chakravarthy.
