Vaazhai trailer out: Watch Mari Selvaraj’s new film exploring the moments of childhood

We had earlier reported that director Mari Selvaraj will be helming a film titled Vaazhai. The film is scheduled to hit big screens on August 23. Ahead of its release, the makers released the trailer of the film on social media on Monday.

Mari Selvaraj, who has helmed hard-hitting films like Pariyerum Perumal, Karnan, and Maamannan, is all set to come up with his fourth directorial titled Vaazhai. Ahead of the film's release in theatres on August 23, the makers released the trailer of the film on Monday.

The three-minute-long trailer of Vaazhai has Mari Selvaraj’s signature all over. There is a bust of Ambedkar, folklore, and much more in the trailer. We see two boys discussing their lives, as we see their dreams being shattered. There are clips of boys having fun with a teacher played by Nikhila Vimal, while some moments indicate violence. The trailer also shows conflicts as it still remains guarded of its plot.

Vaazhai is presented by the banners Disney+ Hotstar, Navvi Studios, and Farmer’s Master Plan Production, with Red Giant Movies releasing it. Given the streaming platform’s association with the project, it is assumed that Disney+ Hotstar also has the post-theatrical streaming rights to the film. Vaazhai will release along with Soori and Anna Ben-starrer Kottukkaali.

The cast of Vaazhai includes actors Ponvel M, Raghul R, Kalaiyarasan, Nikhila Vimal, J Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, Janaki, and others. Besides direction, Mari Selvaraj will also produce the film along with Divya Mari Selvaraj. The technical crew consists of cinematographer Theni Eswar and editor Suriya Pradhaman. Santhosh Narayanan has scored the music for the film.

Meanwhile, apart from Vaazhai, Mari Selvaraj is also working with actor Dhruv Vikram for a film titled Bison. The film is based on kabaddi sports and also stars Anupama Parameswaran, Rajisha Vijayan and others. The shooting for Bison is underway. A release date is yet to be announced.
