Vaathi stars Dhanush and Samyuktha in the lead roles.
A still from Vaathi.
Tamil star Dhanush is basking in the success of his previous movie Vaathi. The film was also released in Telugu under the title Sir. Exactly a month after its theatrical release, the movie will be made available for streaming on Netflix. The film will premiere on the platform on March 17.
Only a few had any big hopes from the box office performance of this movie at a time. One of the reasons was the gentle tone of the movie about a school teacher's fight against scams that makes education expensive, and thus inaccessible for students from weaker sections. At a time when, when only big action set pieces and bigger guns seems to be the flavour of the season, Vaathi looked like an aberration that the movie-going audience won't appreciate.
Vaathi was released in cinemas on February 17 and it was received with a lot of warmth from the audience at the box office. A Dhanush film drawing audiences to theatres in Tamil Nadu was not a surprise. The actual surprise was sprung by the Telugu audience. Sir was a big hit at the box office.
Sir marked Dhanush's first straight film in Telugu. And it's safe to assume that the star will be now open to more cross-industry parings. Vaathi/Sir was written and directed by Venky Atluri.
Vaathi exceeded all expectations in terms of box office collection. The film managed to sell Rs 100 crore worth of tickets globally within two weeks of its release. Its music album by GV Prakash Kumar was also a big hit. You can't believe the streams it's doing. All platforms are calling me and 'what digital numbers you guys are doing? It's not possible.' It's (Mastaaru Mastaaru) doing 1 crore streams in Telugu, and 3 crore streams in Tamil. Overall we have 4 crore (40 million) streams," said GV Prakash Kumar earlier in an interview.
Vaathi stars Samyuktha as the female lead. And it also has Samuthirakani, P Sai Kumar, and Tanikella Bharani in the supporting cast.
