Venky Atluri has directed the film which has been titled Sir in Telugu,
Dhanush in Vaathi
A few weeks ago, there were reports that Dhanush's Vaathi might be postponed from December 2 owing to reasons best known to the team. One of the reasons for the proposed change in plans was said to be the arrival of Avatar 2 in mid December. But the makers seemed unfazed.
However, they have now announced that the film's release has been postponed. The new release date now is February 17. The bilingual project which has Venky Atluri at its helm has been titled Sir in Telugu. The team has also unveiled a couple of new posters of the movie.
One of them has Dhanush sitting casually on stairs in a school even as students and others look on, while the second poster has him sporting an aggressive expression after beating up a few baddies black and blue. GV Prakash, who has composed music for Vaathi, took to Twitter to post, "With renewed spirit, We will be bringing #Vaathi #SIRMovie to the theatres on 17 Feb 2023 (sic)."
He had revealed the first single from the film a few days ago in Tamil and Telugu. Shweta Mohan has lent voice for the melody which has lyrics penned by Dhanush. Veteran Tollywood lyricist Ramajogaiah Sastry has written the Telugu lyrics for the track.
Yuvraj and Naveen Nooli have handled cinematography and editing respectively for Vaathi which has Samyuktha Menon essaying the female lead. The film marks her first big ticket movie in Kollywood.
Silambarasan's Pathu Thala and Raghava Lawrence's Rudhran are other Tamil films which postponed their releases from December to another date in 2023. While the former's new release date is yet to be revealed, the latter will arrive in April.
