The legendary musician had been hospitalized for the last two weeks and was in a critical condition as he was later taken to the ICU. As the news of his demise was confirmed by his family members, celebrities mourned the great loss on their social media accounts.
Taking to his X handle, Amitabh Bachchan mourned the loss of Ustad Zakir Hussain. He wrote, "T 5224 - .. a very sad day .. (sad face emoji)."

The demise news of Zakir Hussain spread like wildfire on Sunday (December 15). However, his family members dismissed the news and confirmed he was 'very much alive.'
Now, on Monday morning (December 16), a statement from his family confirmed to India Today, "Zakir Hussain, one of the world’s most transcendent musicians, passed away from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in San Francisco at the age of 73".
"He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy cherished by countless music lovers around the globe, with an influence that will resonate for generations to come," the family said.
Meanwhile, speaking about his achievements, Ustad Zakir Hussain redefined the rhythym of tabla to an international level and impressed the audience with his magical beats. He has earned five Grammy Awards over the course of his career, including three accolades at the 66th Grammy Awards earlier this year.
