The pre-release business of Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 has been locked at a record-breaking number. When it comes to the US, the film needs a never-before-heard amount to be in the safe zone.
Pushpa 2 is one of the most anticipated films in Indian cinema and is likely the biggest release ever. The Allu Arjun-starrer has been made on a massive budget of Rs 500 crore and is set to hit screens on December 5, 2024. But the film is yet to be fully completed, with a song and a special fight sequence still to be filmed.
Meanwhile, the pre-release business for Pushpa 2 has been locked at an unprecedented figure. Shockingly, for the film to be in the safe zone, it needs to make at least Rs 1,100 crore worldwide.
In the overseas market, the rights have been sold for a whopping Rs 140 crore, the highest ever for a Telugu film, which also carries significant risk. Reportedly, the US deal is close to $15 million. Apart from RRR and Kalki 2898 AD, no other Telugu film has reached that level in recent years.

Allu Arjun’s highest gross in the US was for Pushpa, which made just over $6 million, making this target a substantial challenge for Arjun and his team. The deals have been locked at extraordinary figures and on a nonrefundable basis, meaning that if the film fails to meet its target, the money will need to be returned to the distributors.
There’s no denying that Pushpa 2 has immense popularity and will likely open strongly across all regions of release. However, with the record-breaking pre-release business, if the film underperforms, it could result in a major loss.
The makers are confident that Pushpa 2 will outperform the first installment. Director Sukumar assures that Pushpa 2 will live up to the hype and deliver significant profits. Sukumar himself has reportedly taken close to Rs 50 crore as his fee. Mythri Movie Makers have planned extensive promotions in the US, aiming to host events on an unprecedented scale.
Trade pundits in Tollywood are cautious, given the high stakes and locked-in deals. For Pushpa 2 to succeed, it must achieve blockbuster status from the special premiere onward. Beyond the Telugu version, even the Hindi version needs to make over Rs 500 crore to reach the safe zone.
The US market, however, appears to be lagging. Can Allu Arjun and his team reach such a monumental target? We’ll have to wait and see. Rashmika Mandanna plays the female lead in this film which has music by DSP. Fahadh Faasil plays the main villain.
