Upendra has reacted to the speculation about UI’s theatrical release: Will UI clash with Martin or Bagheera?
On September 18, on the occasion of Real Star Upendra’s birthday, the team of his next, UI, which marks his return to direction, put out a new poster that teased an October release. Naturally, the inference is that UI will be in theatres in October. Reeshma Nanaiah, who is in the cast of the film, also said as much during a press meeting of the film.
The question that remains, then, is if UI will risk a major box office clash. The two major release dates in October are for Dasara and Deepavali, both of which have multiple films laying claim to them. Superstar Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan, Alia Bhatt’s Jigra, and Dhruva Sarja’s Martin are among the films hitting theatres on October 10/11, while Deepavali has even more big-ticket releases, including Srrimurali’s Bagheera.
UI release date: Real Star Upendra to risk major box office clash?
Now that UI is being projected as a pan-India film, it will need a good window to release, and October, in all honesty, looks like an unlikely option for the team, despite what’s on the trailer. When asked about this, Upendra, in his usual style, decided to confuse the members of the media who’d gathered, by saying, “Yes, we said, it’s an October release, but that could be anything to do with the film.”
The actor-filmmaker, however, added that producer KP Sreekanth has been in talks with the teams of the other Kannada films and has been working towards figuring out a good date, which allows each of them enough breathing space at the box office. The question that remains is whether UI will be moved ahead or if any of the other films will change plans to accommodate Upendra. All will be revealed in a few days.

Meanwhile, addressing the question if UI’s subject has anything to do with the mythological character Kalki, Upendra quipped that while the recent Telugu film explored the mythological tale, his film will be a logical and psychological Kalki.
