Marco star Unni Mukundan spoke about how the release of Mohanlal’s Barroz could impact his film and his reasons for being excited for the superstar’s directorial debut
Usually, when big films release together, there’s always a reason for being worried whether one film’s performance would affect the other. In the case of Unni Mukudan’s Marco and Mohanlal’s Barroz, that’s irrelevant. While the former is a hyperviolent action thriller meant solely for adults who prefer such a genre, Barroz is aimed at children and the family audience.
In a recent interaction with the media post the initial day screening of his latest film, Unni opened up about his reaction for Mohanlal’s directorial debut, which hits theatres on December 25.
Unni, who had previously starred with Mohanlal in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Bro Daddy, said that he was thrilled about the upcoming children’s fantasy. “Malayalam cinema is where all the pilot projects happen, including the first 3D film. Lal sir’s Barroz is coming up next and I am very excited. As far as I am concerned, it would take Mohanlal the complete actor to next level,” he said.
The actor also highlighted that his film and Barroz target different sets of audiences. “(Actors) would usually direct a film, but he did it in 3D. He could have done a ‘mass magic’ movie, instead he chose a subject for children and families,” Unni remarked.
Unni also explained that he takes “great pride” in releasing a movie the same week as Mohanlal’s Barroz. “I got inspired to do action after watching films like Spadikam. So, if I am influenced by action films, these people are the ones to blame (laughs),” he added.
Meanwhile, Marco has already got off to a massive start at the box office, with the makers claiming that the film has grossed Rs 25 crore worldwide and industry trackers saying that it has raked in close to Rs 9 crore from Indian markets.
“I hope more action films come because it’s a genre that would appeal to the youth,” Unni said, adding, “I want to do great films, and when my friends are investing so much money to make a film, I want it to be the best. I am happy that I could do that with Marco.”
