Dialogue writer KL Rajashekar’s directorial released in theatres on April 14
When lockdown restrictions were eased and film-related activities resumed, Kannada actor Komal had very excitedly announced a new acting gig. The actor was set to collaborate with noted dialogue writer KL Rajashekar for a comedy to bee produced by Crystal Paark Cinemas. Komal had been on a self-imposed break from films at the time, as he was not finding scripts that appealed to him. Talking to OTTplay at the time, Komal had said that Rajashekar’s script came to him when he had rejected a bunch of other stories and was trying to find backing for scripts he had written and had little to no luck.
Rajshekar’s story, which unfolds during the pandemic, was so hilarious that Komal was sure he had to be a part of it. Called 2020 at the time, the film was shot every time lockdown was relaxed, but then had a longish break when Komal caught the virus and was affected quite badly by it. Despite this major health scare, when the actor eventually resumed shooting, even though he was not in the best shape, he did not let that affect the film, giving his all to it.
The film, which paired Komal with Dhanya Balakrishnan and had Harish Raj in a pivotal role, was eventually rechristened Undenaama and released in theatres on April 14, 2023. The film follows the protagonist, a techie who is desperate to get married, but has obstacles along the way, including the pandemic. The film is currently still in theatres, but based on the reception the makers, we hear, have been able to sell the digital rights to Amazon Prime Video. An official streaming date has not been announced, but June 3 is apparently the most likely. The film, which has music by Sridhar Sambhram, also stars Apoova, Vaishnavi, Tanisha Kuppanda, and Bank Janardhan in pivotal roles.
