Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland in Uncharted
Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland's Uncharted is running in theatres now. The action drama, which released today on February 18, is based on a popular video game by the same name. The film has been in the making for years now.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, the lead actor Mark spoke about playing Sullivan after being a contender for Nate or Nathan Drake's (Holland) role. Mark was initially meant to play Nathan Drake in the film but after years of its making, the film came up with a different approach and the makers decided to have Nathan Drake as a younger character on the screen. Mark told the portal that it was a long process. He said, "I'm getting old and it's one of those things where I was always excited about being involved in the Uncharted universe, bringing to the big screen. They figured now the best way in was kind of now, making these characters a little bit younger." He added that it would have been 'ridiculous' for him to play the role of Nathan Drake and that Tom Holland did a 'fantastic job'.
The 50-year-old actor also said that the character Sully will always remain special for him and that he appreciates the opportunity to be able to play the role of a mentor to Tom Holland's character. He said Sully is different from Nate, who is a young and timid guy but smart. He knows the history and how to crack puzzles but Sully, on the other hand, has all wisdom and experience but lives in a grey area where one can't tell if he can be trusted or not.
The film Uncharted, directed by Ruben Fleischer, also stars Antonio Banderas. The film revolves around Nathan Drake and Sully who go on the hunt for the fabled treasure of the Magellan expedition.
